    A woman died and a man was seriously injured in a Tamaqua car accident after their vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer on June 1, according to a report in republicanherald.com.

    Killed in the accident was passenger Helen Sparich, 71, of Lehighton, PA. The driver, Salvatore Sparich, 75, also of Lehighton, was listed in serious condition at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, according to the news report.

    A 74-year-old Gilbertsville woman was charged in a hit-and-run car accident on April 27 that claimed the life of Kristy L. Bender, 26, of Royersford.

    Police say driver Patricia Maurer struck a pedestrian, identified as Bender, who was walking along the 1200 block of South Township Line Road in Upper Providence, according to news reports. Witnesses told police the driver did not stop after hitting the pedestrian, who was struck so hard she was thrown to the side of the road. Bender was walking home from her job at Kohl’s, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
